I’ve spent many years trying different roasters around the country. Sometimes from San Francisco. Sometimes Brooklyn. Enjoying something different than what I can find at a local grocery store. Decided this year I would support local, so glad I stumbled upon Broken Compass. I’m still learning more than just the roast of the bean. The process is something that interests me. I’m sure BC will continue to provide something new for my curiosity. P.S. A subscription is worth it!

Woo hoo first review of the coffee! Tried Luis Serna Caturra this morning (second brew attempt, first was botched from my grind settings being off) doing a pour over using a smidge less water. Impressions: Smooth, bright, sits light on the tongue with a pleasant after taste. Notes of lemon grass yes slightly astringent. Sips bring out best notes not to be chugged. This seems to be a higher quality varietal Colombian than typical? Interestingly note on the bag recommends 7 to 12 days before grinding (this was roasted 6/28) so perhaps it's in peak flavor. Overall very satisfied and if just a smidge cheaper would be an obvious 🏆.

Such an incredibly informative and fun experience! Highly recommend this sensory course to anyone even mildly interested in coffee- I guarantee you’ll become incredibly invested and want to learn more and become a bit of a coffee snob after this 😂

Broken Compass is hands down the best specialty/boutique coffee. I drink their coffee every day with no discomfort (iykyk)! The company is run by the cutest, nicest couple who absolutely let their love & knowledge of coffee shine through in their products. This isn’t even their ‘day job’, but they put so much hard work into their product & it shows. Definitely give them a shot if you’re looking to support small, local business & try something a step above the typical grocery store finds.

My husband and I participated in the Coffee Sensory Fundamentals class offered by BCR. The experience was very informative, you can tell both Sarah and Camilo are passionate about what they do. The wealth of knowledge they both have was apparent, the class was hands on and interactive. Would highly recommend if you’re looking to elevate your coffee game.
